The parents adaptation to take care of the children suffering from the juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Background: The juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is one of the chronic inflammatory diseases whose origin is unknown. A child to be diagnosed is always a challenge to his parents who have to handle a wide range of new duties which they are not prepared to in an emotional way as well as they have no enough knowledge about the disease. The aim is to define the influence of disease duration on the child and his family lives. The parents knowledge on the disease in the meaning of the movement system improvement was analyzed.
Material and methods: The research were held in 2009 among the children to be hospitalized in the Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic as well as the outpatient rheumatologic department in the Institute of Rheumatology. The diagnostics examination was used as a method to research. The original survey was used to verify the results to have been obtained in the research.
Results: The data that have been obtained indicates that JIA impacts on the parents everyday life of ill children as well as the ill children themselves. Researched parents learnt only the basic knowledge on the disease.
Conclusions: 1. The research proved the ill children’s parents need to be educated especially in the preliminary disease state regardless to the disease level. 2. The dialogue seems to be the best method to teach the parents the practical knowledge. 3. The main goal of the joints protection, when the child is juvenile, is the individual approach to the movement system impairments.
