Cervical challenge test – ultrasound assessment of cervical competence

Ultrasound plays a critical role in the assessment of cervical competence. Transvaginal scanning seems to be the most precise and reliable method of assessing cervical competence. Cervical challenge test is based upon transvaginal scanning after the patient had been standing for at least 15 minutes. The test is easily standardized. The test selects a group of patients for whom preventive therapy appears rational.
