Extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis C virus infection

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection causes the appearance of various extrahepatic manifestations. These include cryo-globulinaemia, kidney diseases, arthropathy, \'sicca syndrome\', neurological signs and appearance of autoantibodies, as described in this article. There are no defined strategies of treatment for these manifestations – the therapy should be individualized. The first line consists of antiviral treatment, if it is not contraindicated. Antiviral therapy is based on the use of interferon and ribavirin. However, we should remember that interferon stimulates and modifies the functions of the immune system and may exacerbate the autoimmune phenomena
