Background

The Family Health Strategy is a systematic program to improve access and quality of primary care in Brazil.

Objectives

The aim of this research is to get a broad picture of the impact of the Family Health Strategy on health indicators in the community. A scoping review approach was chosen so that key outcome domains could be identified.

Material and methods

Literature search on the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Articles published in 2018–2022, observational quantitative study design, and written in English were the inclusion criteria. Data charting included the author and year of publication, study design, level of analysis (ecological or individual), population characteristics, details of the Family Health Strategy exposure/comparator, outcome measures, and key findings.

Results

Of the 3,353 articles, screening was carried out, and 56 articles remained to be read thoroughly. There were 16 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The health indicators measured are infant, maternal, and child mortality rates. The incidence of TB,
COVID-19, and TB management outcomes along with other health indicators were also analyzed.

Conclusions

Family Health Strategy is effective in improving several health statuses, especially lower mortality rate, hospitalizations, and ACSH expenditures. This model can be an alternative solution to health problems in primary care.
