Introduction:

Prurigo pigmentosa is a rare skin condition of unconfirmed etiology that results in confluent erythematous papules arranged in reticular pattern, most commonly found on the torso and subsiding with residual hyperpigmentation. It has been associated with ketogenic diet.

Objective:

We present the case of a 29-year-old man with papular and macular lesions that appeared after introducing a ketogenic diet.

Case report:

A 29-year-old patient was admitted to the dermatology department due to erythematous papular skin lesions forming a reticular pattern which have appeared after introducing a ketogenic diet. Suspecting prurigo pigmentosa he was treated with lymecycline, and ketogenic diet was discontinued. After a month of treatment his lesions have resolved with residual hyperpigmentation.

Conclusions:

With the growing popularity of ketogenic diet, the incidence of prurigo pigmentosa may increase. Adequate differential diagnosis and treatment is key in managing this condition.
