Lung abscess is an important medical problem. This paper presents current knowledge about definition, aetiology, pathogenesis, risk factors, classifications, symptoms and signs, diagnostic procedures and treatment of this disease. The author draws attention to difficulties during differential diagnosis and treatment which are noticed in every day clinical practice.
