Introduction
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease characterized by erythematous, scaly plaques. Secukinumab is an interleukin-17A inhibitor with proven efficacy in the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis.
Objective
The aim of this study was to present a case of papillary thyroid carcinoma occurring in a patient with psoriasis treated with secukinumab.
Case report
The patient had previously been treated with methotrexate for 1.5 years and with secukinumab for 2 years and 9 months. In this case, papillary thyroid carcinoma may have developed de novo or in association with secukinumab therapy.
Conclusions
The relationship between anti-psoriatic therapies and the development of malignancies remains unclear and requires further investigation. Careful monitoring, including detailed medical history, physical examination, and appropriate laboratory and radiological evaluation, should be performed before and during treatment with biological agents due to the potential risk of malignancy.
