The prevalence of obesity is currently increasing, maternal obesity being one of the most frequently encountered high-risk obstetrical situations. Pregnancy outcome, mode of delivery and the postpartal condition of the newborn have been evaluated in 62 overweight women. A control group was 60 normal weight pregnant women. Obese women during pregnancy have been found to be at higher risk for complications such as hypertension, antepartum hemorrhage, infections. Compared with normal weight women, the obese ones showed a tendency to higher frequency of cesarean delivery. In the study group the mean weight of newborn was 300 grams higher compared to controls but the difference was not stastically significant. The result in Apgar scale of 4-7 was more frequent in the study group.
