The Executive Board of the Polish Society of Rheumatology on the 24th of February 2011 passed a resolution conferring the title of honorary member to Professor Irena Fiedorowicz-Fabrycy.

Professor Irena Fiedorowicz-Fabrycy was born on the 13th of September 1930 in Vilna. She came to Szczecin in 1946 as a returned expatriate due to post-war changes of the Polish borders. In Szczecin, she graduated from the First Girls’ Secondary School and obtained the school-leaving examination certificate in 1949. In the same year, she entered the Pomeranian School of Medicine and graduated with a medical diploma in 1954. In December 1954, she obtained the post of an assistant at the Second Department of Internal Medicine of the Pomeranian School of Medicine. She worked her way up the ladder in this unit and she became a lecturer. She obtained the Doctor of Philosophy degree upon presentation of a thesis entitled “Diphenylamine and pseudocholinesterase tests in evaluation of activity and dynamics of inflammatory arthritis”. The thesis was supervised by Professor Edward Gorzkowski. She moved to the Department of Hematology of the Pomeranian School of Medicine in 1975. In 1983, she obtained the title of associate professor upon presentation of a thesis entitled “Results of management of patients with chronic effusive arthritis of the knee with radioisotopic synoviorthesis with P-32”.

Professor Irena Fiedorowicz-Fabrycy became the head of the Division of Rheumatology of the Institute of Internal Medicine of the Pomeranian School of Medicine in 1991. The title of professor was conferred on her in 1996. The Division of Rheumatology was transformed into the Department of Rheumatology and Internal Medicine in 1999 and Professor Irena Fiedoro-wicz-Fabrycy obtained the post of head of the Department. She held the post until she became pensioned. She combined work at the Department of Rheumatology with work at the out-patient clinic. Currently, she is in a private practice. Professor Irena Fiedorowicz-Fabrycy is board-certified in internal medicine (the first degree in 1957, the second degree in 1961) and rheumatology (1962).

Professor Irena Fiedorowicz-Fabrycy took part in regional specialist supervision for several years; she was a regional and province supervisor in the field of rheumatology.
