After almost 60 years of clinical use, progesterone remains a commonly prescribed drug by obstetricians and gynecologists in a variety of indications. Micronization of progesterone resulted in new routes of administration of this steroid such as oral, rectal and vaginal. Especially the vaginal route gains popularity due to its unique pharmacokinetic profile described as the „first uterine-pass effect”.
