Abstract
Metastasis of laryngeal cancer or cervical actinomycosis – the importance of early differential diagnosis

Introduction
Actinomycosis is most commonly caused by Actinomyces israelii. The disease mainly affects the cervicofacial area. Laryngeal cancer most often develops in middle-aged men. Smoking increases the risk of laryngeal cancer by a factor of 30.
Objective
Presentation of a patient with laryngeal cancer and lymph node metastases forming a tumor on the neck treated as actinomycosis.
Case report
The 52-year-old patient was admitted to the Department because of a tumor growing for preceding six months. On examination, tumor on the left-side cervical area and extensive infiltration around the lesion were noticed. Histopathological examination indicated squamous cell carcinoma. A laryngeal tumor with infiltration of surrounding structures was found in computed tomography scans. The patient was disqualified from surgical treatment and received palliative chemotherapy.
Conclusions
The presented case points out the key role of oncological vigilance regardless of specialism.
