I am pleased to present the third 2006 issue of Archives of Medical Science (AMS). I hope the articles included are interesting for you and will encourage you to read future as well as archive issues of AMS. I look forward to your suggestions and opinions. I will be glad to receive any comments or letters to the Editor regarding the manuscripts we have already published. This form of communication between authors and readers is the best way to exchange opinions and engage in matter-of-fact debate. First I would like to thank all the people who helped me with this issue of Archives of Medical Science – our Publishing Editor, Ms Miroslawa Huk, for her well-aimed advice and commitment, and Ms Agnieszka Tecław for her patience and exceptionally hard work. I would also like to invite all AMS’s readers to acquaint themselves with the great review articles by Prof. Jochen D. Schipke et al. (entitled: Postconditioning: a brief review), and Prof. Bernhardt J. Schaller (entitled: The role of endothelin in stroke: Experimental data and underlying pathophysiology). I am sure they will be of interest. I would like to inform you that the editorial staff of AMS and our publisher, Termedia Publishing House, have decided that beginning with the 4th 2006 issue we will collect a token (nominal) charge (=70 Euro) from authors for publication in our journal. This is strictly connected with the journal’s development plans, e.g. with the forthcoming increase in issues published per year (bimonthly) and with the indexation of AMS in payable medical databases. I would like to inform you that Archives of Medical Science has already been indexed in: EMBASE, Chemical Abstracts CAS, SciFinder, Scopus, Index Copernicus (IC), CAB Abstracts, EMNursing, Compendex, GEOBASE, Global Health Databases, KBN, NLM (National Library of Medicine), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Mosby Yearbooks, J-Gate, OpenMED, Geneva Foundation Free Medical Journals, and Polish Medical Library (GBL). We have been still waiting for the results of indexation in International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA), Immunological Abstracts, Index Medicus/Medline, and ISI Journal Master List. Finally I would like inform you that following recent evaluation AMS has received a new predicted value in the Index Copernicus Database: 5.87 IC (5 pt. KBN). It is the highest KBN score a journal can receive without the impact...
