Effective treatment of chronic wounds is a serious challenge for many specialists. Most of the causative factors responsible for the development of a chronic wound affect the deterioration of the skin around the ulcer. Additionally, patients often avoid washing their limbs for fear of e.g. getting the wound wet and focus exclusively on the protection of the ulcer. The skin surrounding a chronic wound is colonized by various pathogenic microorganisms and therefore requires appropriate measures, including hygiene and care. The paper presents two cases of patients with a chronic wound, in which the skin surrounding the wound required special attention. The implemented measures resulted in a significant improvement of the clinical condition of the wound and the skin around the ulcer.
