abstract=".        Aim of the study:  The purpose of the work was to gain knowledge on expectations of patients who stay in surgical wards regarding nursing staff.    Material and methods:  The research was carried out on a group of 170 patients (92 women and 78 men) in 2005. Examinations were conducted in three hospitals in Poznań and Kołobrzeg.    Results:  The results showed that patients did not know exactly what they expected from nursing staff.    Conclusions:  The results showed that patients expected from nursing staff manual skills, and to pass on medical information.",
