abstract="The paper presents a review of the literature on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) published in the years 2006-2007. The authors focus particularly on systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized controlled studies, and guidelines. Management strategy in bile duct stones in patients treated with open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy, as well as in acute biliary pancreatitis and cholecystitis, is presented. Palliative and preoperative biliary stenting in patients with pancreatic cancer and stenting in chronic pancreatitis are discussed. A lot of concern is dedicated to prevention of ERCP complications and safety of the procedure.",
