title="Metabolic syndrome occurs twice as often in patients with coronary artery disease as in the healthy population",
abstract="The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) defined by WHO, ATP III and IDF criteria in patients with stable coronary artery disease validated angiographically. We analyzed 100 consecutive non-diabetic patients referred for coronary angiography. Biochemical parameters were assessed, 75-g OGTT and elective coronarography were performed. Metabolic syndrome was present in 43 patients according to WHO, in 37 according to ATP III, and in 53 patients according to IDF definition. Severity of CAD did not correlate with features of MS. High blood pressure, waist circumference and W/H ratio dominated in this group of patients. Metabolic syndrome is more frequently observed in patients with stable CAD than in the healthy population.",
