title="The androgen receptor",
abstract="The functions of various organs are influenced by the androgen receptor (AR). The efficient AR is required for the sex differentiation or puberty as well as for reproduction in adulthood. Mutations of the AR gene could result in failure of response to androgens or augment the AR activity inducing hirsutism. Furthermore the AR could be involved in the pathogenesis of carcinomas. The paper is a review of the present knowledge of the structure of the AR gene and protein. Diseases caused by mutations of the AR gene are also discussed. Recent findings concerning participation of the AR in pathogenesis of the breast, ovarian, endometrial or prostate carcinomas are presented. The molecular biology is considered to be a progressive field of science. It is believed that exploration of the AR gene structure and its mutations improves the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases connected with the AR functions.",
