abstract="Urinary tract infections belong to the most common causes of consultations in general practicioners or nephrologists. Epidemiological data indicate that urinary tract infections may account for even 20% of all outpatient and 50% of hospital infections, respectively. Urinary tract infections are a serious problem, not only because of the frequency of their incidence and recurring character, but also because of possible and often serious complications, especially in the course of pregnancy and in patients before and after instrumentation of urinary tract. Chronic tubulo-interstitial nephropathy, which complicates recurrent infections, is also a cause of chronic renal failure. Considering the large scale of the problem, prompt diagnostics, proper treatment and prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections are a necessary in each case.",
