title="Role of histamine in rheumatoid diseases",
abstract="The pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases is still not fully explained but it is known that the balance between cytokines and inflammatory mediators plays a critical role in regulating the ongoing pathological process. Histamine, an endogenous amine, participates in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases in the early phase of inflammation as well as in its chronic stage. Increased concentration of histamine in the inflamed tissues and in blood is observed. Expression of the four types of histamine receptors in joint tissues reflects histamine involvement in the course of cartilage destruction. In this review we discuss the role of histamine in pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.",
