title="Abdominal splenosis with clinical presentation of metastatic neoplastic disease",
abstract="Splenosis means an ectopic autotransplantation of splenic tissues after splenic trauma or surgery. It usually occurs within the abdominal and pelvic cavity, involving the parietal and visceral peritoneum. Patients are generally asymptomatic and this entity is diagnosed accidentally. This is a case report of abdominal splenosis with clinical presentation of a disseminated malignant disease with metastases of unknown origin in a 54-year-old woman who underwent splenectomy for trauma at the age of 12 years. The final diagnosis was established on the basis of histological examination of nodules excised on exploratory laparotomy that revealed a microscopic structure typical for the spleen. These unusual findings show that splenosis should be taken into account in the differential diagnosis of tumour-like lesions disclosed on abdominal imaging in a patient with splenic injury in the past.",
