title="Clinical and ambulatory activity of the Institute of Rheumatology in 2010",
abstract="Eleonora Reicher Institute of Rheumatology in Warsaw is a hospital which provides highly specialist medical services and a research institute involved in rheumatic diseases issues. 9,128 patients (among them 72% of women) were hospitalized and the Institute provided specialist advice on over 27,500 occasions (among them 80% of women) in 2010 (Fig. 1, 3; Table I). The highest number of patients were hospitalized at the Department of Paediatric Rheumatology (28% of all hospitalizations at the Institute of Rheumatology). The Department of Paediatric Rheumatology differs a lot from other Institute of Rheumatology clinics taking into account the following parameters: average time of hospitalization (8 days at the Institute of Rheumatology, 4 days at the Department of Paediatric Rheumatology) (Fig. 2), the percentage of patients from the Mazovian voivodeship (78% – Institute of Rheumatology, 69% – Department of Paediatric Rheumatology). Patients suffering from inflammatory diseases such as: rheumatoid arthritis (27.5%), connective tissue diseases (16.5%), juvenile arthritis (14%) constitute the majority of patients hospitalized in at the Institute of Rheumatology (Table II, III). Median age of the Institute of Rheumatology patients was 49 years. The oldest patients were treated at the Department of Rehabilitation (median age 65), while the youngest (median age 14) - at the Department of Paediatric Rheumatology (Fig. 4). The Institute of Rheumatology specialist outpatient clinics served 8,831 patients during 27,512 visits in 2010. It means that an average patient took more than 3 visits in 2010 (Fig. 5, Table IV). Patients who were 55-69 years old represented the most numerous group of patients (Fig. 6). The majority of them (93%) lived in the Mazovian voivodeship.",
