title="Case reportMultilevel atherosclerosis in a patient with diabetes mellitus – why cigarette smoking is the most difficult risk factor to eliminate",
abstract="Diabetes mellitus is one of the most important risk factors of cardiovascular disease. Coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, stroke and lower limb ischaemia are 2 to 4 times more frequent in diabetic patients. However, good metabolic control of diabetes, lipid metabolism, proper blood pressure and overcoming other risk factors play the most important roles in reduction of cardiovascular risk in these patients. In the article we present the history of a 55-old female patient with diabetes mellitus and multilevel atherosclerosis. Despite the great involvement of the patient in the therapeutic process, cigarette smoking – which is one of the most important cardiovascular risk factors – is still not eliminated.",
