title="Reticular erythematosus mucinosis effectively treated with chloroquine and pimecrolimus. Case report",
abstract=" Introduction  . Reticular erythematous mucinosis (REM) is a rare form of cutaneous mucinosis, belonging to a heterogeneous group of diseases in which mucin deposits accumulate in the skin. REM clinically presents as erythematous infiltrated papules with a reticular pattern. The lesions in the majority of cases are localized on the back and chest. The disease occurs most frequently in middle-aged women.    Objective  . We present a case of a male patient with REM, effectively treated with chloroquine and pimecrolimus.    Case report  . A 44-year-old man with 2-year history of erythematous infiltrated papules on the back treated as allergic lesions was referred to the Department of Dermatology. Based on clinical and histopathological findings, the diagnosis of REM was established. Treatment with pulsed dye laser had no effect. Chloroquine with topical pimecrolimus was applied and improvement in skin lesions was observed.    Conclusions  . Reticular erythematous mucinosis can be difficult to recognize clinically. Treatment with 1% pimecrolimus and antimalarials seems to be an effective therapeutic option with no significant side effects.",
