abstract="Creation of optimal conditions for the elderly patient makes it possible to plan a professional and comprehensive nursing care.   The coexistence of a number of chronic diseases at the same time and lesions overlapping changes resulting from the aging process significantly overstate the risk of surgery and anesthesia in this age population. The diagnosis of the patient’s problems and his needs is always beneficial as it allows the nurse to take action to minimize them and better prepare for surgery, and consequently will have a positive impact on the patient and his family.  The effect of patient preparation for surgery has a significant impact on the perioperative and postoperative period particularly for people in the old age. A significant role in the preparation for operation plays the therapeutic team (each according to its competences), including a specific role of the nurse.",
