title="The analysis of multiple body injuries in Emergency Department on academic level",
abstract=" Introduction : Multiple body injuries are the most severe traumas. According to their extent, they are life-threatening and carry a high risk of posttraumatic disability. Aim of the study: To analysis of multiple body injuries in Emergency Department on academic level. Material and methods : Retrospective analysis of injuries was conducted based on medical documentation of 249 patients with multiple body injuries hospitalized in Emergency Department. Gender, age, place of residence were analyzed along with the kind of accident which patient experienced, the extent of injuries, presence of alcohol in serum and mortality of patients. Results: 249 patients with multiple body injuries were hospitalized in Emergency Department, including 184 men and 65 women. Patients under 40 years old were the most numerous group (51%). 59 patients (23.7%) were under the influence of alcohol at the time of accident. The main causes of injuries were traffic accidents (152 cases) and falls from the height (40 cases). The most frequently injuries considered head (166), thorax (136) and locomotor system (135). Among injured patients, 164 suffered from the trauma of two areas of the body. Traumas with the highest rate of mortality were observed in traffic accident casualties. The average ISS among deaths was higher (p < 0.001). Injuries of thorax had influence on mortality rate (p < 0.038). Conclusions : Multiple body injuries were most frequently recognized in young man after traffic accidents, often under the influence of alcohol. Traumas considered usually head, thorax and locomotor system. Thorax injuries influenced significantly the rate of mortality. ISS value appeared to be a significant predictive factor of mortality.",
