title="Hiccup in palliative care patients",
abstract="Persistent hiccup is an annoying experience in palliative care patients, and it substantially decreases their quality of life. There are central and peripheral causes of a hiccup that require a different approach. The medicine of choice in centrally induced singultus is baclofen, while metoclopramide is recommended in the case of peripheral causes. Midazolam may be useful in a refractory hiccup. Intervention procedures, such as phrenic nerve blockade, should be considered in patients not responding to pharmaceutics.",
