title="Demographic factors and the self-care level of patients after performance of intestinal stoma",
abstract=" Introduction.  In recent years, colorectal cancer is among the most common ones. The performance of intestinal stoma is very often and only effective method of treatment, which saves life of patient. Many of these patients have doubts connected with the practical aspects of care on themselves. That\&#8217;s why the special meaning has professional preparation of patient to self-care. The most important thing is the patients\&#8217; education, which should be suitable to his/her individual possibilities, shaped largely by demographic factors.   Aim of the study.  Determination of the influence of demographic factors on the level of selfe-care of patients with intestinal stoma.   Material and methods.  The study was conducted in 2010 in hospitals in Lodz among 100 people. The research tool was a questionnaire survey of its own design. Results were analyzed statistically using nonparametric tests: Test c2 Pearson. The worth p < 0.05 was established as statistically significant. Factors VCramera and VPearsona. were used for the analysses of dependence stregth.   Results and conclusions.  The study group consisted of 42% men and 58% women. The main reason of performance of intestinal stoma was colorectal cancer amang 47% respondents. There was showed strong statistically dependence between patients\&#8217; age, level of education and place of living in compare with patients\&#8217;skills connected with self-care of intestinal stoma (p < 0.0001). Young people, with higher level of education, who were living in cities reprezented higer level of self-care of intestinal stoma. Analysis of results pointed to the dependence between sex and intestinal stoma care ability (p < 0.005). Women showed a better preparation for self-care than men.",
