title="Knowledge of diabetes in patients with diabetic foot syndrome",
abstract="  Introduction.  Patient\’s lack of knowledge is one of the main risk factors for the diabetic foot syndrome (DFS). Therefore, education should play a key role in the prevention of diabetes complications.   Aim of the study.  The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge about diabetes, chronic complications of diabetes and risk factors for DFS among diabetic patients with diabetic foot syndrome.   Material and methods.  The study included 50 patients, 18 females (F) and 32 males (M) with diabetic foot syndrome. The study was conducted using diagnostic surrey with a questionnaire containing 35 items.   Results and conclusions.  In the study group 3 F (16,6%) and 8 M (25%) declared knowledge about acute and chronic complications of diabetes, but only 2 F (11,2%) and 4 M (12,5%) could name them. Five F (27,8%) and 15 M (46,8%) properly listed symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Only 1 F (5,6%) and 9 M (28,1%) declared knowledge of DFS risk factors. DFS patients\’ knowledge about acute and chronic complications is not satisfactory. The study indicates the need for continuous education of diabetic patients.",
