abstract=" Introduction . The level of the sense of coherence (SOC) is an element which explains the relationship between support and health. High SOC level makes people believe in life predictability and order which in turn motivates them to be healthy and functional. Social support is one of the external resources which directly influence patients\’ health. The aim of the study . The aim of the study was to examine the levels of SOC and social support as determinants of regaining health in patients with the diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma or testicular cancer. Material and methods . The study included 83 patients of the chemotherapy ward, Oncology Center, Bydgoszcz. The SOC level was assessed using Antonovsky SOC-29 questionnaire and social support was measured using Kmiecik-Baran scale. Results and conclusions . Men with testicular cancer during therapy received emotional and informational support at significantly higher levels than women with ovarian carcinoma. Their comprehensibility was also higher. Estimation of the levels of SOC and social support might be used as determinants of care of patients with cancer at different stages of the disease. Nursing Topics 2011; 19 (3): 329\–334",
