title="Sense of coherence and social support in patients with an alcohol problem",
abstract=" Introduction . In Aaron Antonovsky\’s opinion, the sense of coherence (SOC) is a pro-health attitude towards stress and resistance resources. With his concept shows that a high SOC may affect the ability to defend against the use of antihealthy ways of avoiding stress, and this undoubtedly is alcohol abuse. In a difficult situation also facilitates the use of social favor of support received.   Aim of the study . The aim of the study was to estimate the levels of SOC and social support in people with alcohol problem.   Material and methods . The study included 65 patients of Provincial Addiction and Co-addiction Treating Center in Toruń. SOC was assessed using Antonovsky questionnaire (SOC-29) and the social support was measured using Kmiecik-Baran scale.   Results . Respondents differed in the level of SOC. Definitely the strongest differences were apparent in the clarity and level of social support received, especially the evaluativeand emotional. Older, more resourceful receive more evaluative and instrumental support.   Conclusions . Estimation of SOC and scopes of support may become a prognostic determinant in care of a patient at different stages of disease.   Nursing Topics 2011; 19 (1): 86\–91",
