title="Knowledge of young people about melanoma of the skin and the behavior of its prevention",
abstract="      Introduction.  Melanoma of the skin (malignant melanoma) is a malignant tumor of the skin formed from melanocytic cells present in the basal layer of the epidermis. The incidence of and mortality from melanoma have a constant upward trend, both in Poland and abroad. This is mainly due to excessive use of natural and artificial sources of ultraviolet radiation and inappropriate behavior associated with fotoprotection.    Aim.  The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about malignant melanoma and behaviors related to prevention in selected population aged 13–30 years.    Material and methods.  The study group consisted of 109 persons. The study was conducted in the Association “Siemacha” in Krakow. The material was collected using a questionnaire copyright application of diagnostic survey method and inquiry technique. The matter was gathered by questionnaire of self-made survey.    Results and conclusions.  On the basis of the study it can be concluded that the majority of respondents (60.55%) has a low level of knowledge about malignant melanoma of the skin. The preferred way (74.31%) get a tan are natural sources of UV radiation — the sun. Respondents can not safely enjoy the sun or a solarium. Most (76.15%) of the respondents do not know what is SPF, most do not know how it should be selected. Means of protection from harmful UV rays that most respondents use a sunscreen preparations.
