abstract="  Introduction.  High social expectations of nurses and midwives create a need for research aimed at obtaining their opinions on successes and failures in order to identify their emotional attitudes, needs and feelings. Therefore, the level of life satisfaction among nurses and midwives seems to be an important subject to investigate.    Aim of the study.  Assessment of the level of life satisfaction of nurses and midwives, members of the Beskid District Chamber of Nurses and Midwives in Bielsko-Biala.    Material and methods.  The survey was conducted among 50 subjects, nurses and midwives, participants of the training on “Ethical Practice in Nursing”. Satisfaction with life was examined by means of the Polish adaptation of Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), developed by Juczyński. The author’s demographic data questionnaire was also used, which included questions about place of residence, place of work, seniority, marital status, and the number of possessed children. Verification of the hypotheses was performed by means of the Spearman rank correlation coefficient and the Kruskal-Wallis test.    Results.  It has been revealed to what extent the variables, including place of residence, place of work, work experience, marital status and the quantity of children, affect the assessment of life satisfaction.    Conclusion.  Nurses and midwives employed in public hospitals feel the greatest life satisfaction. The longer they work, the lower the level of their life satisfaction becomes. The variables such as place of residence and having a family do not have a statistically significant impact on their life satisfaction. ",
