abstract=" Objectives and study design: Prospective evaluation of changes in periodontium in postmenopausal women and assessment of factors influencing the condition of periodontium in this group. Materials and methods: The study involved 84 randomly selected postmenopausal women attending electively dental clinic for a routine control who were divided into three groups according to the presence and the severity of periodontitis . The patients receiving hormone replacement therapy were subject to continuous therapy (estradiol 2 mg + norethisterone acetate 1 mg or estradiol valerate 2 mg + cyproterone acetate 1 mg or estradiol valerate 2 mg + norgestrel 0.4 mg) or sequence therapy (coniugated estrogens 0.625 mg + medroksyprogesterone 5 mg or estradiol valerate 2 mg + norethisterone acetate 1mg or estradiol 2 mg + norethisterone acetate 1 mg) Results: Decreased progression of periodontitis and ultimately lower extent of teeth exfoliation during the period in question was shown in the group of patients using hormone replacement therapy regardless of its regime and generics used. Conclusions: In postmenopausal women the degree of progression of periodontal pathologies is in proportion to the severity of lesions observed shortly after the menopause. The patients using hormone replacement therapy are showing decreased progression of periodontitis and lower extent of teeth exfoliation.",
