title="Prophylaxis of the pressure ulcers – recommendations of the Polish Wound Management Association. Part I",
abstract="Pressure ulcers have been a worldwide problem for many years, affecting both hospitalized and home-care patients. It is emphasized that in the last two decades the incidence of pressure ulcers has increased rapidly and medical care workers have difficulties in ensuring effective prophylactic and therapeutic measures. The recommendations contained in this document present the position of the Polish Wound Management Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Leczenia Ran) developed on the basis of an analysis of available scientific evidence. The team formulating the recommendations hopes that practitioners taking them into account in patient care will also consider individual needs, preferences and values of the patient according to the evidence-based practice approach. The use of recommendations is not a substitute for responsibility for making individual decisions appropriate to the circumstances of a patient’s particular clinical situation. Healthcare managers are responsible for enabling the implementation of recommendations when practitioners and people using their care want to use them. They should do so in the context of local and national priorities in terms of funding and quality of care provided, and having regard to their obligation to promote equal opportunities to provide care to all pressure ulcers sufferers at risk.",
