title="Phlegmon of the neck with an atypical manifestation and severe course",
abstract="Phlegmon of the neck is an infection of the neck tissues, which is a potentially life-threatening condition. The most common cause of the disease is bacterial infection. A 43-year-old man was transferred from the Internal Medicine Ward to the ENT Department due to phlegmon of the neck and chest. The patient required a tracheostomy and multiple surgical drainages. Treatment was adjusted based on successive wound swabs and antibiograms. Continuous irrigation of the wounds resulted in local improvement. Due to the good clinical condition and significant regression of the abscesses in the computed tomography scan, the patient was discharged home and remains under control at the ENT Outpatient Clinic. Initial symptoms of phlegmon of the neck may be atypical, as in the presented patient. Securing the airways, intravenous antibiotic therapy, and drainage of abscesses are the basis of treatment.",
