title="Oral immunotherapy as a treatment for patients with food allergies",
abstract=" Food allergies (FA) are a common health problem worldwide, and the need for effective and safe treatment is substantial. Allergies, due to their unpleasant symptoms, significantly decrease patients’ and their caregivers’ quality of life (QOL), while also posing a risk of life-threatening anaphylaxis. To date, there is no treatment utilized in medical practice; patients are advised to avoid allergenic food, but most frequently they do not even know that they have ingested it. Unintentional exposure to allergens is common and leads to unexpected allergic reactions. Furthermore, allergens have the ability to trigger an immune response due to cross-reactivity. A promising approach to treating food allergies is antigen immunotherapy (AIT), especially oral immunotherapy (OIT). OIT is based on the daily administration of increasing doses of antigen to induce desensitization. Scientists analyze the effectiveness and safety of OIT most commonly in peanut, cow’s milk, and hen’s egg allergies, as well as in other FA. The results are inconclusive but demonstrate potential future directions for the treatment of food allergies. However, to better understand the mechanism of OIT and achieve a safer strategy, researchers ought to carry out more studies on AIT. ",
