abstract="The increasing number of cancer patients together with the availability of new, frequently expensive, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities leads to the developement of diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for routine practice (standards of management). The     guidelines should be evidence-based and should optimally cover all aspects of cancer patients care. The common use of standards may lead to the    substantial improvement in the quality of cancer treatment (better outcome and lower total cost).",
