abstract="Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agents used to reduced pain, decrease swelling and improve function in patients with various forms of arthritis. The primary mechanism of action of the NSAIDs is the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Some of the NSAIDs can inhibit activation and chemotaxis of neutrophils and reduce toxic oxygen radical production in stimulated neutrophils too. The NSAIDs may also scavenge superoxide radicals. Indications and contraindications are presented. The NSAIDs may produce toxic effects in any organ system. Some side-effects are discussed in the paper too.",
