title="Characteristics of surgically treated patients with inflammatory bowel diseases",
abstract="  The aim  of the study was to compare signs and symptoms of surgically treated patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn\&#8217;s disease.    Material and methods:  Retrospective studies were conducted in the Surgery Clinic of Biziel Hospital in Bydgoszcz. Forty patients with ulcerative colitis (22 patients) or Crohn\&#8217;s disease (18 patients) were included in the study.    Results:  Study group characteristics showed statistically significant differences in age for the two groups (Z=6.37; p<0.05). Other characteristics (gender, duration of hospitalization) showed no statistically significant differences.    Conclusions:  Surgical treatment of Crohn\&#8217;s disease is generally associated with disease complications and longer time of hospitalization compared with ulcerative colitis.",
