abstract="Introduction: Gastroesophageal reflux disease is an increasing problem of highly developed societies, which is connected with exacerbation of the quality of life, possible complications and cost of treatment. Aim: To evaluate the influence of ailments based on the life quality questionnaire filled in by patients. Material and methods: 10 832 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease were examined, before and after 4 weeks of a single daily dose of 20 mg of omeprazole treatment, based on the life quality questionnaire prepared by the researchers. An analysis was made of the influence of omeprazole treatment on subjective ailments, concomitant to gastroesophageal reflux disease, in 9 particular groups. A life quality questionnaire prepared by the researchers was used in the survey. Results: Single daily dose of 20 mg of omeprazole in 4-week treatment significantly improves the quality of life in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Omeprazole was found to be equally effective in elimination of many concomitant subjective ailments. Probability value of achieved results was 99% (p<0.01). Conclusions: 1. Before omeprazole treatment 90% of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease reported decreased quality of life. Quality of life after treatment improved by 64%. 2. Omeprazole was equally effective regardless of the dominant symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease.",
