abstract="Papers published in 2006 offered an interesting variety of information about highlights in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. This review paper addresses the most recent guidelines and standards in endoscopy. Reports considering important topics related to measuring quality indicators in endoscopy have also been discussed. We have focused particularly on reports useful in daily clinical practice. We have also discussed new trends in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy that may change medical practice in the future.",
