There are tree swallowing phases: oral, pharyngeal and esophageal. The mechanism that protects the airways from the food aspiration is occlusion of the larynx during the pharyngeal phase. The crico-pharyngeal muscle plays crucial role in the functional of upper esophageal sphincter. The swallowing process is influenced by many brain centers including the cerebral cortex. %A Obrębowski, Andrzej %P 19-24 %9 journal article %U https://www.termedia.pl/Characteristics-of-the-sensorimotor-coordination-in-the-swallowing-process,11,26468,1,1.html
