TY - JOUR JO - Przewodnik Lekarza/Guide for GPs SN - 1505-8409 PY - 2009 ID - Woźnicka2009 TI - The role of combined drugs (fixed-dose combination pills) in the therapy of arterial hypertension AB - Most patients with hypertension require more than a single antihypertensive agent, particularly if they have comorbid conditions. Combination therapy of hypertension with fixed-dose combination pills is required by most patients with hypertension to reach target blood pressure. In many cases, combination therapy improves rates of blood pressure control and requires less time to achieve target blood pressure with equivalent or better tolerability than higher-dose monotherapy. Additional benefits may include cost savings and better compliance. Large clinical trials performed in the last few years prove that combined therapy of essential hypertension has reached a secure position lately. Combined drug regimens are increasingly widely available in the pharmaceutical market – as a direct effect of information acquired from multicentre trials. Fixed-dose combination pills may in the near future become a basic part of treatment in many hypertensive patients.
