TY - JOUR JO - Reumatologia/Rheumatology SN - 0034-6233 VL - 49 IS - 2 PY - 2011 ID - Prusinowska2011 TI - Hallux valgus in rheumatoid foot: surgical treatment and rehabilitation AB - Hallux valgus is a foot deformation that often occurs in rheumatoid arthritis patients (Fig. 1). In this case, the foot support function during gait and in more dynamic load activities (running, jumping) is highly disturbed. Hallux valgus can also induce pain because of wrong shoe adjustment. The current condition of RA patients and applied surgical intervention determine rehabilitation after surgery. The typical rheumatic forefoot deformations and surgical methods used in hallux valgus treatment are described in this article (Fig. 2). Authors have concentrated on physiotherapy after hallux valgus correction containing both anti-swollen treatment and stabilization after joint surgical correction. This treatment contains physical therapy and active exercises with kinesiology taping (Fig. 3).
