Cough is a very common problem in the peditarician’s daily practice. The presence of foreign body in airway and also tumors localized in mediastinum can be a possibile cause of chronic cough. Foreign body aspiration into the bronchial tree usually occurs most commonly in children. There is around a few hundred cases a year in Poland. In the course of the disease there may occur a period of acute obstruction, uncharacteristic symptoms, acute inflammatory complications and permanent brochopulmonary failure. Bronchoscopy is the primary method of diagnosis and treatment of the foreign body in airway. Mediastinal tumors can also be the cause of chronic caugh in children. Among the mediastinal tumors, benign predominate (cysts, benign neoplasms), malignant constitute 25% (neuroblastoma is the most common). Mediastinal tumors require detailed diagnostics including imaging and multidirecional treatment.
