Introduction. Alcohol is a drug most widespread and its consumption in Poland is still growing. Alcohol consumption by women is associated with increased risk of adverse consequences, especially during pregnancy, because pregnant exposes the toxic effects of not only your body but also the developing fetus. Although women's awareness about the dangers of alcohol is increasing, it is still a group of women with unspecified opinion on this.

Aim of the study. The aim of this study was the preliminary opinion of women know about alcohol consumption during pregnancy and knowledge of alcohol drinking behavior by pregnant women.

Material and methods. The study included 100 women in the first days after birth, between the ages of 20 to 35 years, in late 2008 and
2009. The study used the method of diagnostic survey, questionnaire based on the technique of using a questionnaire survey of his own
design. For the comparative analysis results are used by descriptive statistics.

Results. Among questionnaired women, major group (76%) did not drink alcohol during pregnancy. Most respondents (74%) declared that
drinking small amounts of alcohol by pregnant may have a negative impact on the health of the child. 62% of respondents think there is no
safe amount of alcohol consumed daily. The research group was the main source of knowledge of the Internet (46.5%).

Conclusions. Based on surveys of the women on the dangers of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge of respondents is insufficient. It seems that there is a need for systematic education and increased involvement of medical staff in this process.
