Background:
Basal cell carcinoma of the face in the aspect of the specific anatomic and functional condition demands a proper surgical therapy.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to assess the results of surgical excision of basal cell carcinoma with free skin flaps technique in the aspect of efficiacy, safety and final aesthetic effect of performed therapy.
Material and methods: Follow-up study included 20 patients (13 male and 7 female) who was surgically treated in Dermatosurgical Department of Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice because of proved clinically and histopathologically basal cell carcinoma. Owing to localization, size of lesions and requirement of radicality, in the therapy simple total excision with a clear margins was performed. Skin depletion was covered by free skin flaps which were transplanted from retroauricular region.
Results: Final results of our surgical treatment was therapeutically, aesthetic and functional sufficient.
Conclusions: In the final assesment -healing, efficiacy of surgical excision and aesthetic effects were taken into account. On the base of study adequate plastic surgical procedures should be done especially in the cases of extensive or difficult anatomic accessibility of lesions when a typical simple surgical excision could not be done. One of this method is a free skin flaps technique.
