The paper reflects clinical and scientific advances in antenatal corticosteroid therapy for fetal lung maturation. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommended giving a single course of corticosteroids to all pregnant women between 24th and 34th weeks of gestation who are at risk of a preterm delivery within 7 days. The consensus panel recommended that the repeated corticosteroid therapy should not be routinely used but should be reserved for women enrolled in clinical trials. Betamethasone and dexamethasone have been widely used in the antenatal treatment to accelerate the fetal organ maturation.
