Sudden deafness is a particularly complex problem in an otolaryngologist’s practice. In this paper we analysed a case of sudden, profound, bilateral sensorineural hearing loss in a 55-year-old woman chronically suffering from lupus erythematosus in whom the presence of lupus anticoagulant and viral infection coexisted. Despite intensive treatment, improvement was not achieved. The discussed case presents difficulties in determining explicit aetiopathology, the complexity of the clinical state and resultant difficulties in gaining a positive outcome for hearing loss in SLE treatment
