Systemic scleroderma is a connective tissue disease with unclear aetiopathology, affecting not only the skin and the subcutaneous tissue but also other internal organs. The diagnosis of systemic sclerosis is not always simple, especially in the early stage of the disease. We present a case of a 38-year-old woman, who had rapid progression of the disease, with skin and internal organs involvement in association with cytomegalovirus infection. Systemic scleroderma in such association is considered to be rare, so a wide range of diagnostic procedures are sometimes needed for adequate therapy.
